Popularity of Living in a Van on The Rise
Ever thought of trading in your traditional bricks and mortar home for a metal box on wheels? Well, according to the guys over at Van Monster there’s been a 50 per cent year on year rise in people searching for ‘living in a van’ online.
Of course it’s not for everyone, but given rising property prices and subsequently rising rental costs, it’s seen by some as a more affordable means of living. For others, it’s the freedom of constantly being on the move and having no fixed abode that leads them to the idea of living in a van.
With a 2006 used Ford Transit van available for just under £4,000 it would appear a rather cheap way to live. However, few vans are suitable without some pretty substantial modifications, after all, most are simply metal shells and therefore require internal fitting, new flooring, storage and electrics.
However, buying and modifying a van isn’t all that must be considered. There are aspects such as how you are going to go to the toilet and take showers, but also the legalities of living in a van, all of which must be thoroughly thought out.
It goes without saying that the whole topic of living in a van is a bit of a minefield, but thanks to the aforementioned Van Monster, we now have a pretty comprehensive infographic resource on the subject. You can check it out for yourself below.
